Setting up Virtual Private Networking (VPN)

  • A PC or Mac using one of the following operating systems:
    • Windows 10
    • Apple Mac OS X 10.6 and later
  • Connection to the Internet. This may be a home, business, or campus connection to a network outside of LLE.
  • A username and password in the LLE domain.
  • A SecurID key fob or SecurID soft token. Contact the Computer Support Group to obtain a SecurID if you do not already have one.

Setting up VPN on Windows

  1. Go to in your browser. paloalto Networks
  2. Username: the username you use to log into your PC
    Password: this is really a Passcode (pin+SecurID 6 digit code)
    **if this is your first time using a SecurID—you need to set your pincode
    So for Password, input the 6 digits from the SecurID app, and you will be prompted to set a pin code (2 times)

    From now on you will use your pin and the number on your
    phone or token for your password

  4. The next screen will ask for the pin+SecurID # (once the securid number has changed)
  5. The latest client versions are available for download on the next page. Choose the 32 or 64 bit that matches your version of Windows. If yourPC is relatively recent, you will most likely need the 64 bit version shown below.

    • Click on the file that appears in the download bar, or click the arrow and choose “Open”
  7. Click “Run”
  8. Open msi
  9. Click "Next" three times
    • Then "Yes"
    • Then "Close"
  10. When the install completes, the GlobalProtect dialog should pop up. If it does not, find the globe icon in the system tray and click it.

    • Enter “” for the portal address, and click connect.

  12. Enter your LLE username, and your PIN+SecurID code as the password

  14. Once you are connected, launch Remote Desktop by selecting Start menu > Windows Accessories > Remote Desktop Connection

  17. User name: lle\xxx
  18. Once you connect it will ask for your password (this is your password you use to log into your PC).
  19. If you see a Certificate security screen, check the box "do not ask me again" and click "yes"

Setting up VPN on OS X

  1. Go to in your browser. (This link is only available outside of the LLE network; home, public WiFi, URConnected, etc., are OK.)
  2. Put in your username and PIN+PASSCODE on the portal page.
  3. The latest client version is available for download on the next page as highlighted below. paloalto Networks
  4. When the download completes, click the Downloads folder on your Dock, then click the GlobalProtect.pkg installer to launch it.

  6. Click "Continue" twice. Click "Install".

  8. When prompted, enter your password and click "Install Software".
  9. Permit Install
  10. Wait a bit.
  11. When the GlobalProtect client starts for the first time:
    • Enter the LLE VPN Portal address: ""
    • Enter your LLE user name.
    • Enter your SecureID pin + current token as your password.
    • Click "Connect"
  12. The first time you use the VPN, you will need to enter your credentials a second time. Be sure to wait 30 seconds for the token on your SecureID to change:

  14. Wait a bit...
  15. Eventually, the Status will change to "Connected". You are now part of the LLE network.

  17. You can close the GlobalProtect window if you like. You are connected as long as you see this icon in your system tray:
